total)
will advance.

total)
will advance.

Slapshot Jr. Teaching Guide
1) Slapshot is a game much like the card game War.
2) The team in Slapshot consists of six players:
a) 3 Blue cards (forwards to hockey fans)
b) 2 Red cards (defensemen)
c) 1 Black card (goalies, players who cannot
score)
3) The cards have a number of them. Numbers of “0”, “1/2”,
“1”
or “2” are not good. Cards with a “3” or a “4” are OK.
Cards
with a “5” or higher are very good.
4) On your turn, you can do one of these three actions:
a) Trade – Pick a player who you think has a
very
good team. That player shuffles his cards and leaves them on a
pile.
You pick a number from 1 to 6, and the other player gives you that card
(1
= top card, 6 = bottom card). You then must give the other player
a
similar card back (i.e. if you get a red card, you have to return
another
red card). You may not give the player the same card back.
You are only allowed to make four (4) trades per game.
b) Draft – Take your worst card and place it
on
the bottom of its pile on the board. Take a new player from the
top
of the appropriate pile (if you discarded a blue forward you must craw
a
new blue forward)
c) Play a Game – Pick a player who you think
has
a weaker hand than you and play a game. This is where Slapshot is
like
the card game War. Each player shuffles their cards and then
plays
them one at a time. For each card, the player with the highest
numbered
player scores a point. If the numbers are equal, no one
scores.
The player who scores the most points wins the game. If the score
is
equal, no one wins.
5) Special Cards – There are a number of special cards which
affect
a game.
a) Goalies –
i) Goalies never score
goals.
When two goalies come up against each other, there is no goal.
ii) If a goalie has a higher
number
than the other player, no goal is scored.
iii) If a goalie has the same
number
as the other player, the other player rolls a die. On a roll of
“6”,
he scores a goal.
iv) If a goalie has a lower
number
as the other player, the other player rolls a die. On a roll of
“4-6”,
he scores a goal.
b) Golden Gums (goalie number 0) – Superstar
and
all players with a number 7 automatically score against Golden Gums.
c) Superstar – Superstar scores against any
other
player. Superstar is considered to have a higher number than any
goalie.
d) Tiny Tim (1/2) – Tiny Time automatically
scores
against any goalie. Tiny Tim can not be injured. If he
comes
up against a Bruiser, the Bruiser is removed instead.
e) Bruisers (red box around numbers) – A
Bruiser
injures any card played against it. The injured player is placed
under
its pile and a new player is drawn after the game. If two
Bruisers
come up against each other, they are both injured.
f) Le Goon – If Le Goon comes up against
another
bruiser, only the other bruiser is injured. Le Goon is considered
to
be a number “0” and so only has a chance to score against Golden Gums.
Preliminary Round
First 8 or 9 players to reach the playoffs spot move to the next round.
Final Round
Final standings determined by the order that players reach the playoffs
spot.
