Albany Township Cemeteries - Records of STRASSER - STRAWSER Family Members

    Albany Twp., Berks Co., PA

This listing was kindly provided by Sylvia Graybill. Thank you, Sylvia.

Albany Township was part of the wild frontier prior to the formation of Berks County in 1752. There were many Indian Raids in the 1750's and 1760's. Settlers were murdered & the chidren if not murdered were carried off & were in captivity during these raids. Tombstones did not exist for this early period. Most burials were marked w/ a common field stone.

The township is located in the NE corner of the County, to the north are the Blue Mts. and on the East is Lynn Twp., Lehigh County. Settler's began to filter through the Albany Region abt 1730. The terrain is rolling hills and valleys, and the soil is mostly shale.

The oldest Church in the Twp. is Jerusalem. New Bethel church was erected as a Union Church in the early 1760's. It is located 2 miles west of Kempton in the foothills of the Blue Mts. It is (I think) on a steep hill. Other names for New Bethel are "Rosenthal", "Organ", "Corner", and "Eck".
